In almost thirty years since its appearance in the Flagler County cultural arena, the Flagler Playhouse (formerly The Little Theater of Palm Coast) has brought quality live entertainment to the community. Thousands of residents have honed their acting, producing and backstage skills on our stages, while tens of thousands more have enjoyed the musical, comedic and dramatic shows the Playhouse has delivered.

Incorporated in 1978 the Playhouse has served its County well while rehearsing in living rooms, garages, senior centers and the like, only seeing stages in final rehearsals just prior to production. Citizens such as Olive Levin, Virginia Snyder and Phyllis Rotunno carried The Little Theater through its first decades making theater synonymous with the growth of the County, particularly in Palm Coast. An occasional ÒhomeÓ (the old Post Office in Palm Coast) allowed audiences to grow, knowing there was a particular place the organization lived, but not until 1998 did the dream of a permanent home coalesce with the purchase of a five acre site on Old Kings North in Palm Coast. Architectural drawings, site maps, all the preparations for a building commenced only do discover that the cost of raising the level of the land was prohibitive and the dream dissipated again. But throughout this time the theater still produced plays for the growing population of Flagler County.

Three years ago the theater board under the direction of John Sbordone, Jean Warfield, Pat McGovern and Jerry Sweeney decided that the only way to survive and thrive was to establish full, dependable seasons of plays and to locate a permanent home. A name change and a concerted effort to produce a substantial number of quality shows has reestablished the theater as a staple in the community; the purchase of the old church at 310 E. Moody Blvd. ensures a permanent home to solidify Flagler Playhouse as a community cultural center at the heart of the County.

This year (after 30 years of preparation) with workshops for children and adults, classes in piano and voice and with a full fledged season of top quality productions planned, Flagler Playhouse is ready to assume its position as the center for community theatrical arts in the County. As President twenty year resident Diane Ellertsen (daughter of founder Phyllis Rotunno) along with V.P.Õs Diane Arlotta and Jack Bigelow and Artistic Director John Sbordone along with a very active all volunteer Board, are on a mission to make Flagler Playhouse a magnet for community based arts organizations in the County. Already overtures have been made to Flagler County Art League, the Gargiulo Art Foundation and others to join in at the crossroads of the County.

Flagler Playhouse is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to enrich, educate and entertain the community through live theater. Our three decades of service are well documented in the newspapers and magazines of Flagler County. Mayors, County Commissioners, Congressional Representatives, and numerous high profile residents have sung our praises. We are an all-volunteer entity dependent on ticket sales, private contributions of our patrons, and corporate sponsors. Our success is dependent on the generous support and involvement of our community.

In addition to our spectacular performances, we are seeking to expand our educational component and bring greater opportunities including workshops, readings, social activities and outreach to City and County entities such as senior center performances, a children's theater component, holiday parades and disaster relief events.

Our audiences, understand that their neighbors and friends can be "as good as the professionals" and, indeed some have been. In our new home with five mainstage plays, the County will experience a full 20 weeks of theatrical fare plus alternate programs such as workshops, classes, lectures, experimental theater programs and incoming touring events.
